Kool Aid & Big Time Rush = Emily’s first concert! @Walmart #KoolAidBTRTour #cbias #shop

I have a confession to make: I live walking distance from Universal Studios and it’s been years since I’ve been up the hill for a movie or a ride, a bite to eat at City Walk, or a concert at the Gibson amphitheater. I know, I know, shame on me! All that changed last Friday, courtesy of Collective Bias® which sponsored this post and generously arranged for tickets to the Big Time Rush Summer Break Tour 2013 concert, along with (to Emily’s utter delight, mine too, to tell the truth) a backstage Meet & Greet pass with the Band.

Why am I telling you about it? Because this was Emily’s first concert and what a memorable experience it was! Also? Keep reading for how you can get discounted tickets to the concert and you too can enter to win the same royal treatment we got, simply by continuing to use something you probably already do: Kool-Aid!

As usual, you can find my story-in-photos in this album on Google+. I took way more photos that could fit here, or there for that matter.

If you don’t know who or what Big Time Rush is, ask your kids :) Emily is a big fan of their TV show (they just wrapped their 4th season on Nickelodeon) and James, Logan, Kendall, and Carlos are the ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys of today’s tween/teen generation. They’re called Rushers, these loyal fans, and they come prepared (turns out there’s a very good reason why, more on this in a bit).

We were there with a few other local bloggers with their equally excited kids/guests. But none of their enthusiasm matched Emily’s, especially after she got personally hugged by the cutest boy in the band (James, if you must know, thereafter referred to as her “boyfriend”). Due to the band’s policy, the photo we took with them will not be released for a few days, so, until then, I can only show you the afterglow…

Opening for the band were, in order, Jackson Guthy, Olivia Somerlyn, and the vivacious Victoria Justice.

They whipped the crowd to a frenzy, and then… Ta Da!! The Big Time Rush curtain dropped and out came our “boyfriends”. Since I got hugged by Kendall during our Meet & Greet, he was of course thereafter referred to as my “boyfriend” or “my guy”. He was cute and he smelled good. I felt ancient. Enough said.

The best part of the concert?

  1. The band picks an audience member (do you understand the need for elaborate posters now?) and said “Worldwide girl” gets to go on stage and perform with them the signature song. Fainting may or may not occur depending on the fervor of said girl.
  2. The band members walk down from the stage into the audience and sing one song amid the screeching, grabbing, flashes by the thousands, and more fainting, as appropriate.

When we sat down, I took notice that Emily’s was the last seat in the row, right next to a little area with a big trunk on it. We laughed about how she wouldn’t need to wrestle for the armrest. Little did we know that THAT’s exactly where Logan would stand, during their in-audience song!!! The puddle of drool at Emily’s feet was proof enough that she too was extremely pleased with the turn of events. They apparently do that (and the Worldwide Girl bit) at all their concerts, which, obviously, neither Emily nor I knew.

This is a little clip of it, you can find the longer version on my youtube channel. In it, you’ll clearly see where I turned my head while videotaping Logan, only to realize that James was actually standing five seats away from us. Now that’s some good sandwiching, if you can get’em!

The vibe of the whole concert was wholesome fun. There were no lewd gestures, no non-PG shenanigans. The attire was appropriate and the lyrics were kid-friendly, even inspiring (Victoria Justice had quite a few songs with a girl-empowerment message). Needless to say, we both came home elated, walking on clouds, half-deaf but still singing, with a been-there-bought-the-tee-shirt glee.

Price of the shirt? $35.
Price of the glowstick? $10.
Having had the privilege of being there at Emily’s first concert to see (and record) her momentous milestone with my own two eyes? Priceless!
